Artists By Any Other Name presents a new version of Claude Debussy’s The Toy Box, a ballet for children composed in 1913. Artists By Any Other Name’s original musical arrangement, choreography and storyline all speak directly to children today. When a young person’s cell phone mysteriously turns into a toy box she goes on many adventures. Eventually she has to choose: Will she spend her time with her friends, or with her cell phone?
Artists By Any Other Name is a multidisciplinary performance group of musicians and dancers who create unique programming for children and adults, founded by Diller-Quaile faculty members Morganne Aaberg and Harmonnia Junus. Most recently, they returned from Australia, where they premiered this new rendition of “Toy Box” and “Fractals in the Dark.” This performance is made possible by the Diller-Quaile School of Music and generous Clifford/Levy Creativity Grant.
