FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) ABOUT EARLY CHILDHOOD ADMISSIONS

Q: What is the admissions process and how are class designations made?

A: All applicants (new and returning students) must submit a completed application form (including class preferences) and a $60 non-refundable application fee each year. There are no interviews or references required. Upon receipt of each completed application form and application fee, the School provides an enrollment contract for your child based on availability in the class preferences you have indicated on the application form. Diller-Quaile gives enrollment priority to returning students and siblings who apply by March 10, 2017. It is important to apply early if you have a strong first preference, as applicants are placed according to date of application.

Q: If I am not sure when my child will be attending nursery school (i.e. morning or afternoon session or specific days), how should I proceed?

A: Since applications are processed in the order that they are received, it is recommended that you apply to Diller-Quaile as soon as possible. Specify your course preferences on the application form, and notate that you have applied to nursery school. Typically, you will hear from nursery schools before the first round of Diller-Quaile enrollment contracts are mailed. Once you know your child’s nursery school schedule, call the Head of Early Childhood Admissions at 212-369-1484, ext. 43 with your child’s Diller-Quaile class preferences. Amending your class request will not affect the original date of application.

Q: I am interested in enrolling my child at Diller-Quaile next year, but I am undecided about which weekly class (Early Childhood or Instrumental) to choose or instrument to study.

A: We recommend that you submit your application early even if you are undecided, indicating your areas of interest on the form. If your child is 4-5 years of age and you are considering instrument instruction, it may be helpful to review the options outlined in the School’s brochure—A Guide to Your Child’s Diller-Quaile Education—as well as the accompanying descriptions in the School’s Catalog. If you would like additional information pertaining to the Comprehensive Program or Weekly Class Instruction offered within the Instrumental and Vocal Department, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions in the Instrumental and Vocal Department section or contact the Instrumental and Vocal Admissions Coordinator at 212-369-1484, ext. 26. School administrators will work with you to determine the appropriate program for your child.

Q: My child and I have really enjoyed our adult/child music class at Diller-Quaile and have made some wonderful friends this year. We would like to be in class with them next year. Would this be possible?

A: Yes! We suggest that families who want to be together apply early, indicate the same first and second choice class options, and provide the names of the children/families that want to be together on the application form. Older children attending nursery or on-going schools who want to continue their music education with friends or classmates at Diller-Quaile should follow the same procedures when applying as outlined above. We are pleased to accommodate these requests whenever possible.

Q: What if the class I am interested in is not offered on a day/time that my child can attend?

A: Please contact the Head of Early Childhood Admissions at 212-369-1484, ext. 43 to discuss your class schedule needs. If there is enough interest, we are sometimes able to add a section of a particular class.

Q: What if my child’s availability changes once I have submitted the application form?

A: Please contact the Head of Early Childhood Admissions at 212-369-1484, ext. 43, with any new information.

Q: Can I apply for my child after classes have begun?

A: Yes. Students generally enroll for a full 30-week academic year, starting in September and continuing to late May. Depending upon availability in classes, some students may be admitted after the start of the school year. In these cases, tuition is pro-rated.

If you have further questions, please contact the Head of Early Childhood Admissions at 212-369-1484, ext. 43.
