MEET THE ORCHESTRA (5&6 years)
This course introduces students to the instruments of the orchestra. On alternate weeks, guest artists perform engaging classical and modern selections. Students participate in discussions with the musicians about the timbre, range, qualities, and repertoire of the performers' instruments. Additionally, students explore the elements of music through group singing, rhythmic movement, experiences with small percussion instruments, and ear training games, some of which incorporate music notation. Educational materials relating to the instruments are used in class and kept in a folder that is taken home at the end of the year. This course helps inspire students to play an instrument, and enhances the experience of those already studying. In addition to a head teacher, every class features a pianist who improvises accompaniments in a variety of musical styles.
