MEET THE INSTRUMENT (5 & 6 YEARS)
This course introduces students to the instruments of the orchestra. Guest artists perform engaging classical selections. Students participate in discussions with the musicians about the timbre, range, qualities, and repertoire of the performers' instruments. Additionally, students explore the elements of music through group singing, rhythmic movement, experiences with small percussion instruments, and ear training games, some of which incorporate music notation. Educational materials are distributed to students in class and are kept in a Meet the Instrument folder that is taken home at the end of the year. Often, this course inspires students to play an instrument and enhances the experience of those already studying. In addition to a head teacher and an assistant teacher, every class features a pianist who improvises accompaniments in a variety of musical styles.
