Instrumental & Vocal Department

Monday, June 15 through Friday, June 19, 2015

The Summer Music Institute immerses students in grades 2-5, 6-8, and High School in a week of musical enrichment fostering technical advancement and musical growth. The Institute courses complement and support the student’s individual study. Classes foster an awareness of music concepts, strengthen music literacy, develop and sharpen ensemble skills, and engage the student as a musician in a broader sense. Students also enjoy the social aspect of making music with their peers at the Summer Music Institute.

A typical day includes many of the following offerings: Institute Chorus, Music in New York, Institute Orchestra, Sight-Singing, Orff Ensemble, Piano and Vocal Ensembles, Chamber Music, Young People’s Ensemble, and Instrument Playing Classes. A picnic lunch and activities in Central Park are enjoyed by students and faculty each day. Special offerings include a field trip to one of New York’s cultural landmarks and a closing concert for friends and family.

The Institute welcomes intermediate and advanced students, as well as students with two or more years of instrument instruction. Students not currently enrolled in individual lessons at Diller-Quaile may apply.
