ART: THE FOUR SEASONS (3-5 years)
Great artists have traditionally drawn inspiration from the colors and moods of nature. In this course, teachers introduce famous paintings, drawings, and photographs showing seasonal images such as a summer rain on the beach, an autumn day in the park, or a wintry night in the city. Through these experiences and class discussions, children develop a greater awareness of their ever-changing surroundings and are given the opportunity to express their responses artistically. Specially selected palates of color that relate to each subject and season are offered as children explore drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, construction, papier-mache, woodworking, and photography. A variety of tools including brushes, sponges, charcoal, paints, and oil pastels are used. In addition to a head art teacher, a music teacher incorporates musical activities that relate to each lesson.
