Adult Department
The Adult Department welcomes all who are interested in individual instrument instruction or ensemble classes. Adults seeking to study an instrument for the first time or returning to study after many years will find a supportive environment for developing proficiency and confidence on their instrument.

Individual instruction for beginning through advanced students is offered on the following instruments: piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, voice, flute, oboe, clarinet, recorder, saxophone, guitar, and percussion. Adult students may enroll in lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length for the full school year or on a per semester basis. All students interview with the instrument department head to ensure placement with the teacher best suited to their musical needs.

Diller-Quaile accompanists visit string, woodwind, and voice lessons regularly. Adult Department Recitals provide informal performance opportunities for interested students.

In addition to individual lessons, Diller-Quaile offers the following weekly ensemble classes: String Orchestra, Recorder Consort, Women's Vocal Group, and Chamber Music Coachings. Adult students may enroll in ensemble classes for the full school year or on a per semester basis. The School also offers Chamber Music Workshops, which are held on select Sunday afternoons from October through April.

If you are interested in individual instruction and/or ensemble classes, please complete and submit an application. The School will schedule an interview with students applying for individual instruction.

2010-2011 course information for ensemble classes and chamber music workshops is provided below.

The ensembles have an opportunity to perform at the end of each semester. Groups are assigned based on players' levels, experience, and schedules. Pre-formed groups welcomed. Placement not guaranteed to all applicants.

Please contact Hannah Hens-Piazza, Instrumental and Vocal Department Coordinator, at 212-369-1484, ext. 26, or hhens-piazza@diller-quaile.org prior to registering for this offering.

Weekend Chamber Music Workshops
Held on five Sunday afternoons from October through April, these workshops are designed to provide adult musicians with opportunities for expanding their musical repertoire, building musicianship, and refining their chamber music skills. Participants play in small ensembles, and each ensemble works with a coach. Groups are carefully assembled according to skill level and experience, and music is sent to participants in advance. All instruments and levels welcomed.

This Weekend Chamber Music Workshops at Diller-Quaile have been made possible, in part, through the generosity of ACMP—The Chamber Music Network.
