FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) ABOUT EARLY CHILDHOOD ADMISSIONS
Q: What is the admissions process and how are class designations made?
A: All students (new and returning) must submit a completed application form (including class preferences) and a $60 non-refundable application fee. There are no interviews or references required. Upon receipt of each completed application form and application fee, the School provides an enrollment contract for your child based on the availability of the class preferences you have indicated on the application form. Diller-Quaile gives enrollment priority to returning students and siblings who apply by March 9, 2012. It is important to apply early if you have a strong first preference, as students are placed according to date of application.
Q: If I am not sure when my child will be attending nursery school, how should I proceed?
A: Since applications are processed in the order that they are received, it is recommended that you apply to Diller-Quaile as soon as possible. Specify your course title preferences on the application form, and notate that you have applied to nursery school. Typically, you will hear from nursery schools before the first round of Diller-Quaile enrollment contracts are mailed. Once you know your child's nursery school schedule, call the Head of Early Childhood Admissions at 212-369-1484, ext. 43 with your child's DQ class preferences. Amending your class request will not affect the original date of application.
Q: I am interested in enrolling my child at Diller-Quaile next year, but I am undecided about which weekly class (Early Childhood or Instrumental) to choose or instrument to study.
A: We recommend that you submit your application early even if you are undecided, indicating your areas of interest on the form. School administrators will work with you to determine the appropriate program for your child.
Q: How do I proceed if I am interested in enrolling in beginning instrument instruction at Diller-Quaile?
A: If your child is between the ages of 4-6 and you are considering instrument instruction, it will be helpful to review the options outlined in the School's brochure — A Guide to Your Child's Diller-Quaile Education, as well as the accompanying descriptions in the School's 2012-2013 Catalog. If you have questions pertaining to the format and curriculum of Play the Instrument, please contact the Director of Early Childhood Programs at 212-369-1484, ext. 40. If you would like additional information pertaining to the Comprehensive Program or Weekly Class Instruction offered within the Instrumental and Vocal Department, refer to the Frequently Asked Questions in the Instrumental and Vocal section or contact the Instrumental and Vocal Admissions and Concerts Coordinator at 212-369-1484, ext. 26. School administrators will work with you to determine the appropriate program for your child.
Q: What if my child's availability changes once I have submitted the application form?
A: Please contact the Head of Early Childhood Admissions at 212-369-1484 ext. 43, with any new information.
Q: Can I apply for my child after classes have begun?
A: Yes. Students generally enroll for a full 30-week academic year, starting in mid-September and continuing to early June. Depending upon availability in classes, some students may be admitted after the start of the school year.
